Binding
Q. Can I bind any FrSky transmitter to any FrSky receiver?
A. No. FrSky transmitters and receivers need to use a compatible protocol and mode in order to bind and operate correctly.
Depending on the equipment, FrSky systems use protocols including ACCESS and ACCST. ACCST receivers may also use different modes such as D16 or D8. The transmitter, transmitter module and receiver must be compatible with each other and, where applicable, have the correct firmware installed.
If you are unsure whether your particular transmitter and receiver are compatible, please contact us before attempting to bind them.
Q. Can I use a third-party transmitter or receiver with my FrSky equipment?
A. Compatibility depends on the protocol being used and how the third-party equipment implements that protocol.
FrSky receivers are designed to work with compatible FrSky transmitters and modules using the appropriate FrSky protocol and mode. A receiver that supports a particular protocol does not necessarily mean that every transmitter or module supporting a similar specification will be fully compatible.
If you are using a third-party module, transmitter or receiver, please check the manufacturer's compatibility information before attempting to bind.
Q. I am having trouble binding my FrSky receiver. What should I do?
A. If your receiver will not bind, check the following:
- Check that the transmitter and receiver are using a compatible protocol and mode, such as ACCESS or the appropriate ACCST mode.
- Check the firmware versions. FrSky equipment can have different firmware versions and protocol variants, and the transmitter and receiver may need compatible firmware before they can bind.
- Make sure the receiver is correctly powered and that the power supply is providing a stable voltage.
- Put the receiver into bind or registration mode using the procedure specified for that particular receiver. The method varies between FrSky receiver models.
- Check that you are selecting the correct receiver mode on the transmitter.
- Keep the transmitter and receiver a reasonable distance apart while binding. Do not place the transmitter antenna directly against the receiver.
- Check that the receiver has been registered or bound to the correct transmitter, particularly when using ACCESS equipment.
If you are still unable to bind the receiver, please contact us with the exact transmitter and receiver models and their firmware versions so that we can advise further.
Q. Can I use more than one FrSky receiver on the same model?
A. Yes. FrSky systems can support multiple receivers in certain configurations, including receiver redundancy on compatible equipment.
However, this is not simply a case of binding several receivers to the same model memory and expecting them all to operate independently. The exact procedure and capabilities depend on the transmitter, receiver, protocol and firmware being used.
Compatible FrSky receivers can be configured for redundancy where supported, allowing a secondary receiver to provide an additional connection to the model.
Please check the instructions for your specific FrSky equipment before configuring multiple receivers.
Q. My FrSky receiver has bound or registered but I still have no control. What should I check?
A. If the transmitter indicates that the receiver has successfully bound or registered but the controls are not operating, check the following:
- Confirm that the receiver is showing the correct status LED indication for your particular model.
- Check that the receiver is receiving a valid signal from the transmitter.
- Check that the transmitter is using the correct model memory and that the correct receiver has been registered or bound to that model.
- Check the receiver outputs and servo connections, including correct polarity and connection to the appropriate channels.
- Check your transmitter's channel configuration and model settings, particularly if the receiver has been used with another model.
- If using ACCESS equipment, allow the receiver to complete its start-up and registration process before attempting to operate the model.
If the receiver still does not respond, please contact us with the transmitter and receiver model numbers, firmware versions and a description of the problem.
Important: FrSky compatibility can depend on the exact transmitter, receiver, module, protocol and firmware version. If you are unsure whether two FrSky products are compatible, please contact us before purchasing or attempting to bind them.
